Immunologic Disease

Immune Deficiency disease can be caused by the absence of part of the immune system,  or the results of an immune system that is not functioning properly. The immune system is composed of white blood cells, which protect against germs and bacteria. Immune deficiencies occur when different forms of white blood cells are missing, creating a pattern of recurring infections that are difficult to cure.

Immune deficiency can be broken into two classes, primary immunodeficiency disease (PIDD) and secondary immune deficiency disease (SIDD).

Primary immune deficiencies are hereditary and can become apparent in infancy. Other times, it is not diagnosed until people reach their 20’s or 30’s. Researchers have identified more than 150 different kinds of PIDDs according to the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology published in 2007.

A secondary immune deficiency or SIDD occurs when the immune system is compromised due to environmental or external factors such as malnutrition, medications and chemotherapy.

If you are in need of primary immune deficiency treatment in Naples, FL and surrounding areas of Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Marco Island the caring and commitment of Dr. Kevin Rosenbach and the Naples Allergy Center team are here for you. Dr. Rosenbach is recognized for his treatment of some of the most complex immunodeficiency diseases.
